The mystery of the barren blog

You may well have been wondering where I’ve disappeared to and I must apologise for the lack of posts on the blog over the summer months.

Due to a sudden family illness and an impending house move, I’ve hardly been able to find the time to switch on the computer, let alone keep abreast of what’s been going on on eBay! However, the invalid is now on the road to recovery and the house move should be complete by the middle of next month so hopefully life will soon be back to normal (ie, organised chaos as opposed to total chaos!).

Is eBay starting to listen to its customers?

For the past several months it has seemed like hardly a day has gone by without eBay announcing more policy changes, many of which have proved unpopular with sellers. Until recently, any protests against the changes seem to have been falling on deaf ears.

However, there are now signs that eBay may have actually started to listen to some of their customers’ concerns.

eBay Australia to reduce buyers’ payment options

On 24th March eBay announced that from late April 2008 all sellers on eBay UK will be required to offer Paypal as a payment option. I doubt many sellers will have a problem with this since Paypal is currently offered as a payment option on around 95% of listings, and it is to the seller’s advantage to give buyers as many payment options as possible.

However, an announcement on eBay Australia stated that from 21st May all sellers will be required to offer Paypal as a payment option and from 17th June all items must be paid for using either Paypal or Visa/MasterCard with transactions processed by Paypal. (more…)

Free Gallery Picture on eBay this summer

eBay have announced that from May 19th until September 30th the gallery picture listing upgrade will be free on eBay UK and eBay ie. This is the small image which appears next to your listing in the search results and normally costs £0.15/€0.20. (more…)

eBay introduce new International Site Visibility upgrade

eBay recently announced that, from May, a new International Site Visibility listing upgrade will be available which will give eBay UK and eBay Ireland sellers’ listings full visibility to buyers on the USA and Canadian eBay sites and vice versa. (more…)

Happy Anniversary to My Silent Team

One year ago this month I received an email from eBay expert Jim Cockrum announcing the launch of his new membership site, My Silent Team.

At the time, I resisted the temptation to join as I was busy with my day job, selling on eBay and working on other projects, and I didn’t think I would find the time to get any worthwhile value from the site.

Some six months later however, after reading many enthusiastic testimonials from eBay and internet experts whose opinions I respect, I decided to sign up and see what all the fuss was about. (more…)
