About Us

Thank you for visiting Online Auction Ideas. If you are looking for a fast and simple way to make money online, or are looking for inspiration and ideas to help you get more from your eBay auctions, then you have come to the right place.

We are a family of hoarders, and I began selling on eBay in 2001 when we reached a stage where we needed to dispose of some of the books, magazines, vinyl records and various other accumulated objects that were taking up so much space in our home. It was either that or move to a bigger house!

By the time I had listed a few items and made a some sales I was well and truly hooked. I discovered how true the phrase “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” really is, and I was amazed at what some people paid for stuff that I would otherwise have thrown away.

After working my way through all our unwanted items, I decided to put the experience to good use and turn my online hobby into a business. But what would I sell? It’s one thing to list bits and pieces that are lying around the house and just hope for the best, but quite another to risk buying merchandise in the hope that it will sell for a profit.

After much deliberation, I decided to focus on selling used collectibles as this was, in effect, what I was doing already. However, I realised that if I was to have any chance of success, I couldn’t carry on working in the same haphazard, hit and miss manner that I had done so far. So I chose a small niche within the collectibles category and spent time learning as much as possible about the products within that niche. Since then I have slowly expanded into other niches, and I still spend many hours each week researching completed eBay auctions with a view to finding hot items that I had not previously considered.

Deciding what to sell on eBay can be a major stumbling block for new sellers, so I will be sharing the results of my research on this blog on a regular basis in the hope that it may give you some ideas and inspiration. I will also share useful hints and tips that may hopefully help you take your eBay business to the next level.

Although I am based in the UK, much of the information I share will be relevant regardless of where you live.  Selling on eBay gives you access to customers all over the world, and you may well be able to find low cost products in your own country that can be sold to overseas buyers for a much higher price.

I will be reviewing ebooks, membership sites and other resources that you may find useful, and I will be recommending the best of them on our review page. There is no doubt that the best way to learn is to follow in the footsteps of those who are already successful and with this in mind I make sure I only take the advice of those internet marketers who have been there and done it. I have no time for the theorists who spend their time selling how-to manuals when they have never actually done what they purport to teach.

Best of all, I will be seeking out the best free resources and providing links to them.

There will be no hype or spin. I will not insult your intelligence by trying to convince you that I have secrets that can produce a six figure income overnight, and I will be documenting my failures along with the things that work.

I hope you will become a regular visitor, and invite you to subscribe to our RSS feed so that you will be kept informed each time we post a new article.

Please feel free to leave your comments on the blog – we look forward to hearing from you!
